BRADLEY COUNTY, Tenn. — The mayor of Bradley County has redirected vacancy funds to allow for firefighter pay raises, according to a post from the Bradley County Fire-Rescue Association.
The decision comes after firefighters spoke to commissioners, saying that they needed more funding to retain experienced personnel, meet safety standards, and modernize equipment across the department.
Mayor Gary Davis redirected $76,000 in vacancy savings into firefighter salaries on Monday.
This adjustment increased pay for 6 firefighters to $41,000, another 6 to $41,615, 15 firefighters to $42,316, and provided a $1,000 increase for 40 firefighters, according to the Bradley County Fire-Rescue Association…
