CHATTANOOGA, Tenn — A Hamilton County school board discussion over educator diversity turned tense this week as some board members questioned whether the district should have a policy that focuses on hiring a more diverse teaching staff.
District 8 board member Larry Grohn said during a policy meeting Tuesday that he believes the proposal amounts to “a racist policy,” arguing the district should avoid any language that appears to favor one group over another.
