TBI: Man faces attempted 1st degree murder charge after December shooting in Hamilton County

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tennessee — Thirty-five-year-old James Alvin Stockwell from Dunlap, Tennessee, in Sequatchie County has been indicted and charged with attempted first degree murder among other charges after a December 2025 shooting that resulted in the injury of a Chattanooga officer.

On Dec. 28, 2025, at the request of 11th Judicial District Attorney General Coty Wamp, special agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation began investigating the circumstances leading to a shooting that involved officers from the Chattanooga Police Department.
