Reflection Riding introduces rare red tailed hawk, asks public to help name her

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn — Reflection Riding in Hamilton County is asking for the community’s help naming a new and unusual resident after welcoming a rare red tailed hawk to its raptor program.

The bird is a leucistic red tailed hawk, a condition that causes a partial loss of pigmentation and gives her striking white coloration that sets her apart from most hawks of the same species, according to Reflection Riding.

Staff say leucism affects feathers, fur, scales, or skin but differs from albinism because the eyes and some skin areas retain their normal color…
