Hiker struck by falling rock on Signal Mountain trail rescued by rope team

SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, Tenn. — A hike on Signal Mountain ended in a rescue effort Friday afternoon after a woman was struck in the head by a falling rock.

Emergency crews responded around noon to the Rainbow Lake trail area after receiving a call about an injured hiker.

Signal Mountain Fire Department arrived at the trailhead on Ohio Avenue and received coordinates for the patient. Crews determined the location fell within the Waldens Ridge Emergency Service district and requested the WRES Rope Rescue Team to respond through the Edwards Point Trail, where terrain was less steep and rocky.
