Likely state-record bass awaits certification

Records are made to be broken, and Tennessee’s most prized one – for a largemouth bass – has apparently been shattered.

Sequatchie County fisherman Darren Nunley caught a bass in Nickajack Lake on Feb. 28 that weighed 15.7 pounds. That broke the previous state record of 15.3 pounds.

Nunley’s fish was weighed on a certified scale and witnessed by a professional guide and a Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officer. The fish, caught on a jig, now awaits official certification by the TWRA…
