Town hall to preview future legislation raises questions about community awareness

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Concerns about homelessness and education were front and center at State representative Yusuf Hakeem’s town hall at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center Saturday morning, which aimed to give the public a preview of expected legislations topics for the year.

Representative Hakeem says there are projects in the works to combat these issues, but it will take the whole community to get the job done.

“Town halls are an opportunity, not only for us as representatives to share what we know is happening at the state level, but to get input from the citizens on interests and concerns that we may not have covered or may not dealt have dealt with yet,” says Hakeem. “It’s important to realize that people have to work together to get things done. And I think what we found is, in the past, people have felt like we’ve come together, we’ve worked on something, and nothing happens.”…
