Injured police K-9 flown for emergency veterinary care in historic mission

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — When a police dog needed emergency care and quickly, an air medical ambulance company stepped in for a flight that would be a first for the company.

Luca is a Belgian Malinois and a full patrol K-9 with the Criminal Investigation Division at the Clay County Sheriff’s Department in North Carolina.

“Luca was inadvertently exposed to concentrated ozone, which can cause acute lung injury,” University of Tennessee Police Department said. “His handler found him in respiratory distress and vomiting. He was taken to Big Bear Vet in Hayesville, NC, where he was stabilized and sedated prior to air transport by Erlanger LIFE FORCE Air Medical.”…
