HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — In honor of Memorial Day, the Phoebus Volunteer Fire Company and the Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue recognized the nation’s fallen heroes early Monday morning.
Continuing a sacred tradition spanning decades, participants visited six local cemeteries throughout Hampton to conduct wreath-laying ceremonies and moments of reflection as a tribute to the veterans who served their country and community.
“This tradition is our way of ensuring that their sacrifice is honored today, tomorrow, and for decades to come,” said Amanda Wroten, Public Information Officer for the Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue. “It is a privilege for our members to stand together and keep this promise to our community and our veterans.”
