‘100% preventable’: Mom’s $30M Navy wrongful death lawsuit must overcome decades of case law

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The mother of a submarine sailor killed two years ago dockside at Naval Station Norfolk is suing the Navy and the Department of Justice, but case law dating back to 1950 indicates she will need a landmark ruling to prevail.

Timothy Sanders, 24, was electrocuted aboard USS Helena two years ago when he touched an electrical panel that had just been serviced.
