Suffolk man arrested, accused of nearly hitting police officers while fleeing car meet-up

SUFFOLK, Va. — Suffolk police have arrested a 20-year-old man following an incident at a large car meetup where officers were nearly struck by a vehicle.

Police responded around 10:20 p.m. on May 29 to the 1000 block of Obici Industrial Boulevard after receiving reports of a gathering involving more than 100 vehicles. Officers approached a vehicle allegedly performing burnouts when the driver backed up and drove toward them, coming within feet of striking several officers before fleeing the scene, according to police.

Following an investigation, police arrested 20-year-old Corey Branch of Suffolk the following day. He faces three counts of attempted capital offense, as well as charges including failure to obey a police command to stop, racing, reckless driving, a noise violation, and two counts of window obstruction…
