SUFFOLK, Va (WAVY) – Firefighters in Suffolk are seeing a common thread in recent fires. They say overloaded power strips are to blame for many residential blazes.
They cause billions of dollars in damage each year across the U.S., and nearly everyone uses them. But firefighters say it’s using them incorrectly that turns power strips into something deadly. Captain Braxton Sweat says don’t plug in your high-wattage appliances like microwaves, AC units, or even refrigerators.
“Some of your older houses, or even newer houses, might not have an outlet close by where they’re using a refrigerator that needs to be plugged into a wall outlet,” Captain Sweat said…
