Hospital officials highlight decline in gunshot wound cases during Wear Orange event

NORFOLK, Va. — Community members gathered outside Sentara Norfolk General Hospital on Friday wearing orange to raise awareness about the impact of gun violence as part of Wear Orange Day, a national observance highlighting how gun violence affects families, survivors and communities.

Wear Orange Day honors victims and survivors of gun violence and is observed annually, honoring the death of a 12-year-old girl who, in 2013, marched in President Barack Obama’s second inaugural parade in Chicago and was killed a week later in a random shooting at a playground.
