NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — For the Miller family in Norfolk, the raw pain is on display at Renee Miller’s home near Norfolk State University.
In one corner of her living room, there’s a makeshift memorial for Miller’s son Shawn Barco, who was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Milwaukee, WI on April 23. Thanks to several 10 On Your Side viewers, the family was able to secure enough funds to transfer Barco’s remains to Norfolk.

On June 6, Miller returned to pick up her son’s remains. The next day, Miller suffered another loss.
“Yes. I went to pick [Shawn’s ashes] up on Friday, and my husband died Saturday morning,” she said. Jerry Miller, who worked for the City of Chesapeake for more than three decades, apparently lost his will to live following his son’s death, according to his wife.
“Jerry Miller had been ill,” she said. “It seems he gave up after Shawn was killed.”…
