Historic Cavalier Hotel and resort sold to Connecticut-based real estate firm

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The trio of hotels that make up the Cavalier Resort at the Oceanfront has been sold and are under new management.

Tuesday it was announced that Connecticut-based Wheelock Street Capital purchased the Historic Cavalier Hotel and Beach Club, the Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront and the Embassy Suites from The Cavalier Associates in what Ben Blumberg, a senior associate with CRBE Hotels called: “The largest hotel transaction in Virginia history.”

HEI Hotels & Resorts, also based in Connecticut, will manage the properties that anchor the northern end of the Virginia Beach resort.

The resort, completed as a public-private partnership in 2023 for $458 million, now accounts for 547 rooms, 81 private homes, 35 condos, nine restaurants, six pools, a spa and a distillery sitting on roughly 15 acres of land.
