Norfolk-based BAE Systems suing U.S. Navy, says it lost more than $8M on modernizing USS Vicksburg

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk-based BAE Systems is taking the U.S. Navy to court, claiming it lost more than $8 million while modernizing USS Vicksburg.The defense contractor says the Navy dramatically underestimated the amount of repair work the decommissioned guided missile cruiser needed before the project began.

BAE says the overhaul ended up lasting about three years longer than expected, with more than a thousand changes to the original plan.

In the complaint, the Navy contends that BAE was adequately compensated through contract modifications and denied the company’s request for additional reimbursement.

The Navy has not yet responded in court…
