USS Nimitz to return to Naval Station Norfolk after four-month deployment

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — USS Nimitz will return to Naval Station Norfolk after a four-month deployment, according to a press release.

Carrying around 3,000 sailors, and commanded by Capt. Joseph Furco, the aircraft carrier’s return comes after it was deployed to the U.S. Southern Command as Carrier Strike Group 11’s flagship on March 7. USS Nimitz sailed with other ships like USS Gridley.

During its deployment as part of Southern Seas 2026, USS Nimitz supported partnership building, homeland defense and hemispheric security.
