‘We were on full alert’: Virginia Beach residents witness ICE arrests in their yards

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 10,000 people across the United States over a five-day period at the end of last month, according to reports from The Associated Press and The New York Times.

Locally, residents of Hampton Roads are witnessing the detainments, firsthand, in their own neighborhoods.

In the Crystal Point neighborhood of Virginia Beach, a handwritten sign posted underneath a Neighborhood Watch sign warned residents that ICE officers had been in the area Tuesday, July 7. A doorbell camera recorded black SUVs and a black truck traveling down Crystal Point Drive.

“We didn’t know what their reasons were or what had happened,” said Virginia Beach resident Patrick Finnegan. “We were on full alert. All my neighbors were contacting one another.”…
