A place of worship in Portsmouth is now a crime scene

PORTSMOUTH,Va. (WAVY) — It was a prayer come true for Army veteran Runita Hill. Sunday morning, with an enthusiastic crowd in the pews, Hill presided over the inaugural service at The Sanctuary of Hope in the Westhaven section of Portsmouth.

“It was amazing. we had someone to join the church on our service. We were able to not only celebrate our inaugural service, but my 53rd birthday. We had so many people just sharing how excited they were that services were starting again in this location,”.

“My life started here in Portsmouth. I started in Cavalier Manor[neighborhood] and my father had his business here all of my life growing up. So to be able to retire from the military, come back home and be used in a community, that means so much to me. It was very important for God to choose me and for this to be my assignment…
