PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A man who fired at Portsmouth police officers and shot out crowd monitoring cameras in downtown Portsmouth in 2024 has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
Anthony David Vega pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder, maliciously shooting at an occupied law enforcement vehicle, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and destruction of property — felony.

The charges stem from an incident on Nov. 11, 2024, around 2 a.m., when Vega was firing gunshots at crowd monitoring cameras, disabling them. As a responding officer turned onto Queen Street from Washington Street, he heard gunshots coming from the parking lot of the United Methodist Church, located in the 500 block of Queen Street. The officer observed Vega in the parking lot as shots were being fired.
