NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Ashlynn Brown, 22, was sentenced to a year and two months in prison after pleading guilty to eluding and hit-and-run following a stolen vehicle pursuit on Interstates 64 and 264 in Norfolk.
On March 14, 2025, Barnes was driving a stolen U-Haul van on Interstate 264 when she was spotted by Virginia Beach Police, who followed closely behind the van until reaching the Norfolk/Virginia Beach city line. Troopers with Virginia State Police were requested and followed Barnes as she came approached Military Highway.
As a trooper was approaching Barnes, she entered the reversable HOV lanes into oncoming traffic. Video footage provided by a WAVY viewer captured the moment Barnes drove through the blocked HOV entrance into the oncoming traffic. Barnes then made a U-turn and exited onto the eastbound lanes of Interstate 64.
Banes then hit a troopers vehicle and made her way back to the HOV lanes. Once troopers verified no cars were near, they crashed their cruiser into the van, causing it to turn and strike the jersey wall. Barnes was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later charged with felony hit and run, felony eluding, assault on a law enforcement officer and grand larceny…
