CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — One person was displaced following a residential structure fire Monday morning in the Indian River area of Chesapeake.
Firefighters were dispatched to multiple reports of a fire on Drake Circle at approximately 8:15 a.m. Upon arrival, crews reported smoke and fire coming from a two-story home.
The resident and her pet safely evacuated before firefighters arrived. A working smoke alarm woke the resident and alerted her to the fire, allowing her to escape easily.
