VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The International Sandsculpting Championship Gallery won’t open to the public during the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival after rising water damage, according to a press release.
Amid high winds, Virginia Beach Neptune Festival plans altered
After consulting with the City of Virginia Beach’s officials, emergency management personnel and tent experts, the festival concluded that the gallery couldn’t be safely opened. Crews are now removing the gallery structure and sculptures from the beach. Visitors are advised to keep a wide perimeter around the site during the removal process.
“We understand and share in the disappointment of everyone who was looking forward to experiencing the International Sandsculpting Championship this year,” said Kit Chope, the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival’s president and CEO, in a statement. “This is one of our most beloved traditions, and this was not a decision we made lightly. The safety of our guests, artists, volunteers and crews must come first. We are grateful for everyone’s patience and support as our teams work through this process.”
