CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A Chesapeake man was sentenced to 10 years and one month in prison after his probation officer discovered child sexual abuse material on his devices.
William Oyster, 50, was formerly convicted in the Eastern District of Virginia of receipt of CSAM on July 6, 2012. He was released from prison in November 2020 and began a term of supervised release, including provisions making his home and electronic devices subject to search at any time and prohibiting him from using or accessing online devices without prior approval of a probation officer.
According to court documents, a probation officer conducted a routine search of Oyster’s residence on Nov. 12, 2025, where he possessed two smartphones, an external hard drive and two thumb drives. A review of the devices revealed Oyster possessed CSAM.
When the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Oyster on Jan. 6, 2026, he was in possession of a loaded handgun. Oyster could not legally possess firearms or ammunition as a previously convicted felon…
