Norfolk firefighter named Target’s ‘first guest’ during private preview

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A new 129,000-square-foot Target store in Norfolk’s Wards Corner neighborhood is scheduled to officially open to the public on Sunday, Oct. 11. The store, located at 201 E. Little Creek Road, hosted a private preview event on Oct. 6, with a special “first guest.”

The new retail location will employ more than 140 people and feature groceries, everyday essentials, adult beverages and electric vehicle charging stations. It also offers same-day services such as Drive Up and Order Pickup, along with an in-store CVS Pharmacy and a Starbucks Café.

The invitation-only preview event took place Tuesday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Local officials and store leadership attended the gathering, including Norfolk Mayor Kenny Alexander, Vice Mayor Martin Thomas and Store Director Maria Bishop, alongside other community partners and Target employees.

As part of the event, Michelle Morgan, a firefighter-EMT with the Norfolk Fire Department, was selected as the store’s “First Guest.” For more than a decade, Morgan has educated local residents ranging from elementary school students to senior citizens on fire safety and slip-and-fall prevention. Target presented Morgan with a $500 shopping spree, allowing her to make the store’s first purchase at 2:30 p.m. prior to the start of the official preview ceremony…
