City leaders, Staunton NAACP meet following Sept. officer-involved shooting

STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) – Following the fatal shooting of 39-year-old Portsmouth resident Montique Gaston, the Staunton branch of the NAACP is asking for clarity and pushing for answers.

After the NAACP sent out a press release, the city of Staunton reached out to the organization to discuss the NAACP’S concerns and police chief Jim Williams recent update regarding the shooting.

“I’ve been a lifelong member of Staunton, Virginia for over 40 years,” Nadia Ware, President of the Staunton Branch NAACP, said. “I’ve never heard of an officer-involved shooting that I can remember that actually resulted in a life lost.”…
