Suffolk police hope to solve 27-year-old cold case

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — For nearly 30 years, the Suffolk Police Department has looked for leads to solve a cold case after a body was found at a local campus.

That body was of Paul G. Schachner Jr. of Norfolk.

The date was January 30, 1997, at the Portsmouth Tidewater Community College campus.
Suffolk police said it was just after noon when a jogger found a body motionless in the woods. That person called campus security and Suffolk police.

They later identified the body as Schachner’s.

Police said he suffered head injuries and blunt force trauma to his body.

The area where he was found was semi-secluded and had limited car access.
