1 displaced by Suffolk apartment fire

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — One person was displaced after a Suffolk apartment fire.

Just before 1 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 600 block of Forrest Oak Lane for a fire at an apartment building.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke and fire in the kitchen area of a first-floor apartment. Crews were able to attack the fire, perform a primary search, and prevent the fire from spreading to other rooms, officials said.

They were able to gain control of the fire by 1:15 p.m. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced resident. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
