JRB reopens ahead of schedule

As of approximately 12:10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 5, the Route 17 James River Bridge (JRB) reopened ahead of schedule to vehicular travel and to marine vessels requiring a bridge opening, following the second of two, multiday closures scheduled for critical maintenance.

During the outage, the second set of 40 of the bridge’s 80 counterweight wire ropes, necessary to lift the bridge span for marine traffic, was replaced.

As part of remaining work on this project, motorists can anticipate possible single-lane closures and brief, intermittent stoppages and test lifts at the JRB this coming week.
