Suspect arrested in connection with January shooting on 35th St. in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a homicide on 35th Street in Newport News that occurred in January.

Newport News police say that on Jan. 27 at approximately 7:49 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of 35th Street for a ShotSpotter activation.

NNPD needs help locating 35th St. homicide suspect

Officers arrived to the scene and found 38-year-old Jave Irvin Edwards suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Edwards was transferred to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

An investigation led to the arrest of 39-year-old Paul Joseph Mulleano on Feb. 10. Mulleano was charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, as well as other weapons charges.
