A Chesapeake man accused in what Smithfield Police are calling a road rage incident on May 1 faces multiple felony charges.
Police say a passenger, identified as 39-year-old Michael Robinson, shot at another car as the vehicle in which he was riding passed the other car on the Route 10 Bypass between the bridge Cypress Creek and Fairway Drive in Smithfield. There were no injuries or property damage reported and the incident was captured on the other car’s dash camera, police said.
Smithfield Police Lt. William Wooley said the driver of the suspect vehicle was identified but not charged.
Police were able to identify the vehicle occupied by the suspect using the dash camera footage and Flock license plate reader cameras. Suffolk Police located the vehicle during a May 1 traffic stop and recovered the firearm allegedly used.
Robinson was being held without bond at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
According to court records, Robinson is due in court on July 25 for a preliminary hearing. He faces one felony count of shooting a firearm from a vehicle, one felony count of possession of a gun by a nonviolent felon, felony attempted malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and two misdemeanor counts of reckless handling and brandishing a firearm. He faces three to more than 20 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
