Convicted drug dealer pleads guilty to federal drug, firearm charges in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A Hampton man pled guilty to federal drug and firearm charges on Tuesday.

Court documents reveal that on Jan. 15, 2024, 29-year-old Erick Allen Osby was seen by an officer with the Newport News Police Department showing a firearm to another person in a parking lot on Warwick Boulevard.

Shortly afterwards, the officer observed Osby placing the firearm in the front passenger seat of his vehicle before walking back across Warwick. The officer then informed additional uniformed officers who were nearby for an unrelated matter.

Osby was then observed talking to another individual with a partially concealed handgun in his pants pocket visible. As officers approached Osby, he ran back towards his vehicle, throwing a cellphone and a loaded .40 caliber semiautomatic handgun to the side. Osby was apprehended shortly after.

According to the document, investigators were able to recover a 9mm semiautomatic handgun, a shotgun cartridge, two digital scales and drug paraphernalia from Osby’s vehicle. Over 20 grams of cocaine were found in Osby’s pocket.
