Newport News 13-year-old charged after threats against E. W. Wyatt Middle in Greensville

GREENSVILLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A 13-year-old was charged on Monday in connection to a social media threat made against E. W. Wyatt Middle School in Greensville County.

The evening of Thursday, Sept. 12, a threat aimed at E. W. Wyatt Middle School was posted to social media, according to the Greensville County Sheriff’s Office.

This resulted in all schools in the district being closed on Friday, Sept. 13 as an investigation was launched into the threat and its credibility. After-school activities were also canceled.

On Monday, Sept. 16, the sheriff’s office arrested a 13-year-old from Newport News in connection to this investigation. The teenager, who was not identified, was charged with six counts of threats by writing or electronic messages to kill or do harm to staff and students at the school.

“The juvenile has known friends that attend the Greensville County Public School system,” the sheriff’s office said.
