Suffolk firefighters contain large construction debris fire

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The City of Suffolk Department of Fire and Rescue responded to a reported commercial structure fire Sunday morning.

Deputies arrived on the 2800 block of E. Washington Street. at 12:40 a.m. to find a 50-foot wide by 25-foot high pile of construction debris well involved in a fire. Flames were visible from E. Washington Street and Portsmouth Boulevard.

Crews contained the fire using hand lines and master streams.

According to a release, a representative of the construction company was requested to respond to the scene in order to ensure proper removal of the construction material.

Firefighting operations were completed at 3:31 a.m. There were no injuries reported.
