NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — 31-year-old Kendall Deshawn Murphy was sentenced in Norfolk on Jan. 10 after assaulting an officer during his arrest for shoplifting at a Norfolk Dollar General, a release states.

On May 6, 2023, Murphy walked into the Dollar General store at 8474 Chesapeake Blvd., wearing a trench coat, and began stuffing his pockets with various items. A clerk called Norfolk Police, and an officer arrived to arrest Murphy.
When Murphy was notified he was being placed under arrest, he pushed the officer and ran.
