Virginia Zoo announces birth of new baby calf

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The Virginia Zoo announced the newest addition to their herd on Thursday!

According to the zoo, in the early morning hours of Feb. 27, 9-year-old Savannah, a Western heritage cow, gave birth to a calf. Officials said the mom and calf are doing well, and that veterinary staff will observe them over the course of a few days.

Currently, the cow habitat area of the zoo has been temporarily blocked off to allow for the herd to have a moment of peace during these exciting, and incredibly adorable, times.

The zoo states that Savannah and her companion, Tess, were recent arrivals to the zoo, arriving in the fall of last year.
