A Red Flag Warning is in effect from 10am this morning to 7pm this evening for strong winds and low relative humidity for most of the immediate area, much of central and northern Maryland (including all of Montgomery County), and Northern Virginia.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
Per the NWS: Northwest 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Relative humidity is expected to be as low as 20 to 25 percent. The combination of dry conditions, low humidity, and strong gusty winds may result in favorable conditions for the rapid spread of fires…
