NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY)– The Virginia Living Museum announced Thursday that Moe, a 20-year-old North American River Otter, has passed away.
In a Facebook post , the museum stated that Moe was one of the oldest river otters on record. Animal care experts carefully assessed Moe and made the decision to help him transition as age-related conditions began affecting his quality of life. Experts performed a post-mortem examination which revealed that cancer had extensively spread throughout his body.
Moe was brought to the museum in 2005 at just six-months old. Throughout the years, Moe delighted visitors with his playful spirit and gentle soul.
