7 lives lost on Virginia roads over Memorial Day weekend

RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia State Police have released sobering statistics from Memorial Day Weekend, indicating seven fatalities stemmed from vehicle crashes over the long weekend. Two of those crashes happened in Hampton Roads; in Virginia Beach and in Chesapeake.

Deputies say while this is a significant drop from Memorial Day Weekend in 2024 (with 13 fatalities), last year also saw 25 fatalities from vehicle crashes in the week following Memorial Day.

State police said the fatalities occurred in Bedford County, Buckingham County, Caroline County, Fauquier County, and Spotsylvania County, as well as in Chesapeake and Virginia Beach.
