HAMPTON, Va. — A piece of Virginia’s African-American history welcomed the public once again Sunday as the Barrett-Peake Foundation hosted an open house to showcase the newly renovated headquarters of the Virginia State Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs.
Located at 123 E. Pembroke Ave. in Hampton, the building is now 100 years old and was the final state headquarters of the Federation, a powerful civic organization of Black women that once championed education, voting rights, public health, and economic advancement for girls and women across Virginia.
