Summer school speed cameras popping up across Hampton Roads

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — School may be out for some students this summer, but for those in three Hampton Roads cities hitting the books, they’ll have school zone speed cameras to help keep things safer.

Speed cameras active in Hampton Roads summer school zones

Chesapeake has an aggressive summer school speed camera program at four different schools’ morning and afternoon classes:

  • Sparrow Road Intermediate
  • Deep Creek Central Elementary
  • Western Branch Primary
  • Deep Creek High School

The camera for Western Branch Primary is in the 3300 block of Tyre Neck Road, where we found lots of parents.

“I have mixed emotions, but I think during summer school hours I like it,” said Tracey Wilgocki. “No, I’m not surprised. It needs to be done. I think so because I see people flying through here all the time, and with summer school and kids darting out, you just do not know what is going to happen.”
