Hampton, Virginia – Drivers on I-64 in Hampton should prepare for a series of brief, overnight traffic stoppages beginning as early as July 8 as part of the Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL) Hampton Segment project. According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), contractor crews are set to carry out intermittent closures to support the installation of new overhead signage.
The initial plan included a full overnight closure of I-64 on July 8, but officials have now confirmed that a full closure will no longer be necessary to complete the task. Instead, traffic will be stopped briefly in both directions while the sign structure is positioned overhead.
The intermittent stoppages are scheduled to take place between 12:01 a.m. and 4 a.m. from Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road (exit 267) to North Armistead Avenue/LaSalle Avenue (exit 265).
