PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — The City of Portsmouth sent a notice on Monday to residents related to its utility system.
According to the notice, after a change to the billing system on June 23, some residents experienced a payment processing error or delayed payment posting.
Due to the issues impacting residents throughout the transition, the city said they are doing multiple things to “make things right,” including:
- No late fees or penalties added while issues are being fixed
- City will personally review each account to make sure no one is being charged incorrectly
- Each customer impacted will receive either a phone call, letter or email
- City will meet with software company to discuss what went wrong and how to improve in the future
