Lightning causes fire to home in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The second floor and attic to a home on West Liberty Springs Road in Suffolk sustained heavy fire damage caused by a lightning strike Friday night, Fire Chief Mike Barakey said.

No one was injured.

Lightning struck the home just after 9 p.m. Friday, and firefighters were dispatched at 9:10 p.m., Barakey said. When crews arrived eight minutes later, there was heavy fire and smoke showing from the second floor and the roof of the two-story home. Smoke alarms alerted the people inside…
