Long-term traffic splits coming on I-64 in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A long-term single lane closure on Interstate 64 in Newport News is slated to begin by late this month, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

A long-term center-lane closure and new traffic pattern on I-64 in both directions is set to begin at J. Clyde Morris Boulevard (exit 258) as early as July 27, VDOT said, reducing travel lanes from four to three.

Drivers will split around the work zone and use either the two inside left lanes, or the one outside right lane, VDOT said. All three remaining travel lanes will handle I-64 through traffic, but drivers must use the outside right travel lane to access exits 258A or 258B to J. Clyde Morris Blvd.
