PPD: Woman killed, suspect found with self-inflicted gunshot

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A woman was fatally shot on Decatur Street in Portsmouth and officers found the suspect nearby, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound overnight on Friday, police said.

Police responded to a call in reference to a shooting in the 1st block of Decatur Street at approximately 1:20 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered an unresponsive woman, identified as 32-year-old Kiersten Renee Moore, with a gunshot wound. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Officers noticed a vehicle matching the description of the suspected shooter’s car speeding down the 1800 block of Effingham Street while heading to the scene. Before attempting to initiate a stop, the suspect crashed into a parked vehicle. Officers approached the vehicle and found the driver, identified as 33-year-old Larry Mitchell, with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene…
