HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Several buildings at a Hampton salvage yard along with more than 50 cars were destroyed in a Monday afternoon two-alarm fire, according to a Hampton fire official.
Battalion Chief Anthony Chittum with the Hampton Division of Fire & Rescue said the fire was caused by workers grinding and breaking down car parts, which triggered a small fire that quickly grew. Fire crews rushed to the scene just before 3:00 p.m. on Monday to battle the flames.
“With a large amount of fire, the numerous amounts of flame and smoke, the numerous 911 calls when that normally happens we know it’s a substantial call,” chief Chittum said…
