VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — After several years of exploring legal options to crack down on “indecent” and “vulgar” merchandise displayed by retailers at the Oceanfront, City Council is poised to try a more direct method: ask for it to be removed.
A resolution sponsored by all 11-councilmembers, up for a vote Tuesday night, asks for store owners along Atlantic Avenue and elsewhere to “voluntarily remove indecent and/or vulgar T-shirts and displays from storefronts.”
Virginia Beach markets itself as a family-friendly vacation destination, and the resolution said the displays creates an “unwelcoming environment for the very families to whom the city markets itself.”…
