Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement gets major updates, needs public input by September

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Efforts to restore and protect the Chesapeake Bay are entering a new chapter. A revised version of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement has been released for public feedback, outlining updated goals to tackle long-standing environmental challenges across the region.

The Chesapeake Bay Program first signed the agreement in 2014, but leaders say the revisions reflect the urgent need to address ongoing threats while doubling down on habitat restoration, clean water initiatives, and community engagement.

“Pollution is certainly playing a role in things like nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment plaguing the Bay – whether from wastewater, or runoff from developed areas,” said Joe Wood, a senior scientist with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation…
