HAMPTON, Va. — Fort Monroe will host the 2025 African Landing Day Commemoration this weekend, honoring the first enslaved Africans who arrived at Point Comfort in 1619.
Events begin Saturday, Aug. 23, starting at 9 a.m. at Continental Park. The commemoration will include an International Bell Ringing Ceremony, cultural performances, a parade of flags, and remarks from special guest Djimon Hounsou, a two-time Oscar nominee and founder of the Djimon Hounsou Foundation.
